Swooning over cheese graters.
Swoon.I am loving these oak and steel cheese graters. They come with storage boxes to catch my cheese.
Ah..now where did I keep that Parmesan?
Sorry but the DIY lover in me couldn't resist posting this gorgeous and totally doable table vignette. Now you know what to do with your old cheese graters when you buy the ones I've posted above :)

Pass me the salt and pepper please...
“I don't know when pepper mills in a restaurant got to be right behind frankincense and myrrh in prominence. It used to be in a little jar that sat next to the salt on the table and everyone passed it around, sneezed, and it was no big deal.”
Erma Bombeck quotes (U.S. humorist, 1927-1996)
Did this quote make you smile? Me...I am smiling..oh yes! Trust me the next few pics will just make you smile a lot more and your heart will say...oh so cute....

I heart: Kitchen scales
I absolutely love vintage kitchen equipment. And when its a weighing scale as pretty and rusty as this; with that to-die for glass jar on top its worth sharing with all of you. I can't do without my weighing scale and we will come to what I use in my kitchen in just a while but till then, dream along.
Oh! I drool. This would look gorgeous not in only in the kitchen but also the dining area.
I will make my peace and be okay with something that is not vintage ONLY if it comes in deep red or hot pink :)
But something tells me...I am liking a lot of bright and cheerful yellow these days...sigh!
I warned you already...a lot of yellow.
And this is when I don't really like yellow a lot. strange.
But when the kitchen is as colourful and and happy as the one here...who can resist it? Not me...
Quick reality check : This is what I have in my kitchen. Ya, I know :(
But I could be totally okay with this felt one too...aww....

Serving furniture to friends & family
How cute are these pieces of edible furniture! I heart. Is anyone out there listening? This is on my wishlist :)) A furniture pan.
What fun it would be play around and paint this furniture with chocolate sauce and sprinkles!
The designers behind this super cool product Fukusada & Pereira have this to say, "An object that mixes both traditional Japanese small cakes 'baby castella' with a Portuguese egg based pastry called 'ovos moles'.You can create your eatable living room and paint you furniture cakes with your favorite jams and toppings. In this way when the user gets full of his furniture he just eats it without creating disposals. And start all over again with a different recipe."
Oh come on, I want it for my 3 year old and her crazy mum :)

The Masala Dabba
What is round, made up of stainless steel and found in nearly every Indian home?
Our Masala Dabba (Indian spice box).
And though the cook in me loves the utility of having a box like this the dreamer-me wants something more vintage-y and charming.
Come join me and drool.
How about a carved wooden box?
A Persian brass spice box. Ornate. I possess a modern Indian version of the same.
Yes, this one. Have never used it store my spices though. Its not an airtight box and that has always discouraged me from making it a home for my masalas.
And now I share with you the prettiest spice box ever.
The reason why I wrote this post. I want.
These boxes could make very good gifts. For a food lover who wants to experiment with Indian cooking this could be just the thing. And it needn't be the usual turmeric, cumin, chilli powder thing...include some of those secret mixes that you use in your cooking...
Mine would contain the following (with nice to know facts about each one and recipes too);Any takers :)):
Garam masala (a North Indian warm spice blend), Panch phoran (an East Indian five spice blend), Madras curry powder (an aromatic south Indian blend; I swear by Camellia Panjabi's recipe, Rajma masala (for some punjabi flavor),Tandoori masala (perfect for marinating and grilling) and a Lassi masala (for those hot summers).
All homemade.
At the very center I would like some bright yellow haldi (turmeric)
I know what I am going to give a certain Miss K the next time she comes down to India:)
If you have any homemade spice rubs or masala recipes, do share.Image : 1,2, 3, 4 and one from my personal album

On my wishlist
When it comes to buying gadgets for the kitchen I have a tough time controlling my heart and my wallet. I am like a child in a candy store when I am left alone for hours at a store that houses kitchen appliances and the likes. Perhaps one day I will share my prized possessions...I may need many a drink before that because seriously it is embarrassing to own up things like this on a public platform :)
On my wish list are some really crazy gadgets.
Meat thermometer and tongs in one. Now barbecuing would be easy peasy.
No more undercooked meat.
No more undercooked meat.
A digital scale spoon. Perfect.
Aha! This one is making me smile. Do you see that steak station gadget and how you can control how you want your steak? How would you like yours? Well done or Rare?
Waffle maker in a new avatar. Me likes.
Why didn't anyone think of this simple solution all these years?
What is that one gadget that you can't live without and one that you bought but for some reason its lying in some dark corner of your kitchen?
Coming up this week: Healthy carrot and raisin muffins and a glimpse of my ever growing food memoir and cookbook collection.
